Scott Penner joined the Truro Alliance Church in September of 1991. He has brought a passion for authenticity in relationships with God and with others.
His post-secondary education began at Canadian Bible College in Regina graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. Pastor Scott began his ministry in the small town of Parry, Saskatchewan as pastor of the Parry Alliance Church. In 1991, he moved his growing family to Truro, Nova Scotia taking up the pastorate of the Truro Alliance Church. In his own words, “I naively believed that if I knew more, tried harder, lived more victoriously, and amassed more Biblical knowledge, then I too, would be fulfilled.”
That draining belief and subsequent lifestyle took a hit in 1995 during a year-long sabbatical to attend Colorado Christian University. In Colorado, he received his M.A. in Biblical Counselling. However, more than a degree, there was a shift in thinking, “I am realizing that I was designed with longings that will never be satisfied on this side of heaven. I am learning to live with an ache. Surprisingly, far from discouraging me, this perspective is freeing me from my frenzied drive to find ‘it’ to a greater dependence on and enjoyment of God and people”.
After that life-changing adventure, Pastor Scott and his family returned again to Truro. He leads a non-frenzied, imperfect church that is increasingly Christ-centered and that deeply depends on, and enjoys, God and each other!
Pastor Scott is happily married to Jeanette and they have been blessed with 4 children, 3 daughters-in-law, and 9 grandchildren.
