TAC Welcomes Refugees
Refugee Sponsorship

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in” Matthew 25:35.

Each year, millions of people around the world are forced to flee their homeland to escape
persecution, war or severe human rights abuses. UNHCR reports that there are more than 22
million refugees worldwide.

In September 2015 we were exposed to the shocking photo of lifeless Aylan Shenu washed up
on the shores of Turkey. He was a Syrian boy whose family fled their home as refugees because
of civil war. Since the unrest began in Syria in the spring of 2011, there have been over 11 million
Syrians displaced.

In response to this Truro Alliance Church partnered with The Christian and Missionary Alliance
Church Canada to sponsor a Syrian refugee family. In June 2016 we were matched with a family
and our application was submitted. Much training, planning, and fundraising have gone into
preparing for this family’s arrival.

At present, the Canadian Government advises that the expected wait time to process our refugee
family’s application is 24 months.

So, as you can see we, and our family have been waiting for some time. While we are grateful
for the initial interest and support we know that our journey into refugee sponsorship is just
beginning. Do not let the sense of urgency inspired by the shocking photo fade!

Thank you for your continued and generous financial support. Please continue to pray for our
family and our team.
